Also known as Bishop’s Weed, Ajwain, Ajvain, Ajwan, Carom, Ethiopian Cumin, Omam, Omu and Ajave Seeds. Ajowan, a native of India, is an aromatic spice. It has small striped seeds which are similar in appearance to cumin seeds. Ajowan imparts a specific aroma and taste to a wide variety of foods. It is popular in savoury snacks, breads and pastries. It also has excellent preservative medicinal properties - easeing asthma and indigestion. Ajowan also acts as a fungicide. India is the main producer of Ajowan, especially Rajasthan and Gujarat.
