Some herbs are best used fresh, such as basil, parsley, and watercress. However some may need to be used dried and or ground from necessity - spices such as cinnamon, paprika and cardemon are often imported but are used extensively in many types of cuisine, from southern cooking to indian curries.

If you are wondering what brand of herbs or spices to  purchase we highly recommend the The Good Spices from Watkins Spices. They are a reputable and trustworthy importer of Spices and quality is always guranteed. There are plenty of places you can pick up Watkins Spices online.

If you prefer you can even grow your own herbs. Herb seed can be purchased from your local nursery but make sure you consult them on what herbs you can plant in season and which grow well indoors or in a pot. Herb seed is cost effective and fun way of getting your daily hit of very fresh herbs - straight from your herb garden!

Growing herbs inside is a great option and can provide herbs and spices all year round. A good friend gave me a planter box of Rosemary, Parsley, Sage and Thyme two years ago and the plants are still healthy and providing me with fresh herbs whenever I feel like enhancing a dish. Hydroponics is another great option to investigate for growing herbs inside, especially for those who live in apartments and do not have access to an outdoor garden area.

Home grown herbs will also be organic (as long as you don't spray them with any nasty chemicals!) this will make them even more tasty and good for you. If you don't grow any of your own herbs I highly recommend seeking out your local organic stockist to get fresh organic herbs. Much better for you and usually much tastier!
